Grant Contract Signing Ceremony

On Wednesday, 10th September 2014, His Excellency Shuichiro Nishioka, the Ambassador of Japan to Malawi and Mr. Angus Gaisford, General Manager of Aquaid Lifeline Malawi signed a grant contract for the Project for the Expansion of Umodzi Community Day Secondary School in Zomba district. The grant signed amounting to US$110, 084 provided under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects will facilitate the construction of a science laboratory, a library, an administration block and also for the procurement of school furniture and laboratory equipment.
The advancement of science subjects enables a country to produce an excellent human resource with innovative minds to develop new things. Malawi being an agro-based economy can benefit from having an innovative society that contributes to the development of new value-added products in order to boost the country’s economy.
Ambassador Nishioka, commended the Government of Malawi for taking the initiative to promote the teaching and learning of science subjects through various projects. He also commended Aquaid Lifeline Malawi for establishing Umodzi CDSS to enable students from Umodzi Primary School access secondary education. After project completion, approximately 200 students will have access to the fully equipped science laboratory and the library. With all this development Ambassador Nishioka hoped that the students of Umodzi CDSS will succeed and be able to compete for tertiary education in the country.
